The statement that there are 500 plates, of which 300 are chromolithographic color with metallic accents, and another 200 plates in two color cameo, do not begin to give the reader any indication of the treasure trove of visual information that is about to be encountered. Many of the plates fold out to double size. The vast diversity of different clothing sttyles used throughout history, and in all geographical areas of the world are illustrated. From ancient Egypt to Medieval, Samurai controlled, Japan, and from Renaissance France to the harems of the Ottoman Empire, this is just the beginning of the long list of styles and cultures that are shown, described, and catalogued. Gilt lettering on label and gilt design to spine. Bookplate of Lenox Library behind front cover. Binding is very weak with webbing visible at the gutter behind boards. frontispiece illustration in color torn at the glue at bottom not affecting the body of the image.
