A FORE-EDGE PAINTED book printed in Bath, England by Richard Cruttwell in 1818 and bound in gilt-stamped green leather, with six compartments on the spine, gilt dentelles on the leather turn-ins, all edges gilt. The fore-edge is finely painted, and depicts a river in the Holy Land. Thomas Wilson was Bishop of Sodor and Man between 1697 and 1755. There is a gilt-stamped green leather "bookplate" on the inside cover showing Jane Rowley 1818. This may be Jane Fuller Rowley (1736-1819) of Connecticut. Please view the photographs. CONDITION: The fore-edge painting is crisp and beautiful. Prior bookseller's penciled price of $250 on inner front end-paper, foxing to title page & front end-papers but not elsewhere.
