The interior lined in plum silk, incorporating two leather compartments, and with presentation inscription in gilt: "Visit of The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor, the Worshipful Aldermen and Councillors of the City of London to Vienna. Town Hall, September 13th 1911". Maker's mark in gilt to the interior: "August Klein / Wien. VII. Andreas G.8." Condition is very good indeed with just a few small marks to the exterior. August Klein (1824-1890) learned his craft as a bookbinder in Bavaria as a young man, moving to Vienna in 1845, and establishing his first business in 1847.
