TWO WORKS bound in one volume, the first in German, the second in Latin from the same publisher in 1771, FIRST EDITIONS. 4to, approximately 280 x 210 mm, 11 x 8¼ inches, the first item printed in black letter, the second in roman, pages: [3], 4-12; [3], 4-11, including 2 title pages, the first with 'No.274' in ink in top corner, plus one large folding hand coloured plate. Bound in 19th century marbled paper, no label or lettering. Spine strengthened with binder's cloth, edges of covers slightly worn and corners slightly creased, 1 neatly strengthened on reverse, occasional faint spot to contents. A good copy. The author addresses the Latin version of his German monograph to Linnaeus. The animal-plant in question is nowadays classified as an animal: a species of the phylum cnidaria or coelenterata. Binding rubbed, corners slightly worn, gilt title slightly tarnished, light foxing throughout, slightly heavier on 2 pages, pale stain affecting 6 pages, 3 to inner margins, 2 small brown spots to 2 lower blank margins, neat pencil presentation inscription to top margin of title page, otherwise a very good copy. Derby, Thomas Richardson; Simpkin, Marshall and Co., London, no date, circa 1839.. SECOND PRINTING, circa 1839, pamphlet, approximately 185 x 100 mm, 7¼ x 4 inches, folding hand coloured frontispiece, pages: [1-4], 5-24, some pages not numbered, bound in the publisher's original green printed wrappers. Spine worn with loss of paper (see image), slight offset to title page from frontispiece, otherwise a very good clean copy. An uncommon cookery pamphlet, mostly on meat and fish with a few recipes for puddings. The title page gives references to the various illustrations on the frontispiece. See William Cagle, A Matter of Taste, page 648, No. 898. He states: "The back wrapper lists Church-yard Gleanings", this title not listed on the back wrapper of our copy.
