Stunning original printed color lithographed poster by Will H. Bradley for The Chapbook, 1894. This famous poster was printed in 1894 by Stone and Kimball, famed Chicago publisher. Will H. Bradley 1868-11962), born in Boston, is widely considered one of the greatest American graphic artist and illustrator, known for his Art Nouveau stylized poster-like interpretations of figures. This 1894 design for Chap-Book, titled "The Twins," has been called the first American Art Nouveau poster; this and other posters for the magazine brought him widespread recognition and popularity. Bradley founded The Wayside Press in Springfield in 1895 and produced the now famous monthly periodical, "Bradley, His Book. Large (5 x 11") proof illustration for one of Bradley's best images, woman with baby in front of stylized Art Nouveau style trees. This scarce insert appeared in one of Bradley's famous, "Bradley, His Book," series, but ours appears to be an oversized example with larger margins, and thus a possible proof printing, sent for review to Bradley, or simply an off-strike during printing process. Nevertheless, it is extremely rare, and none found on the internet at the time of writing. Near fine. Most scarce.

Boards lightly scuffed and scratched; nineteenth century holograph pen gift inscription and modern pencil book seller's notes on front pastedown, free endpapers browned, deckled edges lightly toned; otherwise a very attractive copy in very good condition.

Ca. 1920. The very rare bookplate of Theodore Weicker, noted collector, appears in the famed "Knave of Hearts by Maxfield Parrish," 1925. Mounted on acid-free folding card frame. The Yale Library has the original material relating to the making of the bookplate, including the lettering. Fine condition. Scarce.

(Folio) 39x33.5 cm (15ºx13º") original full pictorial vellum with image of the Christ carrying a lamb upon his shoulders. No. 5 of 100 copies. Signed by the author at the limitation statement; each plates with the artist's penciled monogram and date. Paolo Paschetto (1885-1963) was a devout Christian who apparently regarded his iconographic art as a calling or avocation as much as a profession. He served as a professor at the Royal Academy of Art in Rome. He was known in Italy as one of the foremost black-and-white artists and illustrators. Light wear; very good.

London: John W. Parker, 1854. First edition. First edition. Original plum cross-hatched fine cloth with original printed label on spine. Patmore's scarce and storied work which was to elicit much favor in the coming years (as well as subsequent controversy). Through the popularity of this work, Patmore was introduced to Dante Gabriel Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelites for which he remained close throughout his life. A superb copy, red-brown endsheets discolored as usual, near fine.

Presentation copy from Patmore on title-page: "To J. Buckstone, Esq. with P. Geo. Patmore's Compts." No copies found. Must have been a very small press run. Scarce thus and possibly a unique copy.

One page on folded sheet, Coventry Patmore (1823-1896), famed English poet and critic and Pre-Raphaelite ally, to Mr. Rawlins, asking him to call to interpret a legal document. "Can you look in tonight to tell me what it all means..." etc. Near fine. Patmore letters are quite scarce. Provenance: Directly from the William Fredeman Pre-Raphaelite Collection.
