[1794] Quarter vellum on marbled boards, now scuffed. Quarto, 242 pages, 28 cm. First edition. An early twentieth century owner wrote an interesting entry on the front fly-leaf about the various available editions and the booksellers who had them, i.e., Tregaskis, Dobell, Heffer. A second note explains this owners donations of his various collected works of Pindar to Princeton Universitys Library and to his friend S. H. Monk. The black vernacular of AZID, or the Song of the Captive Negro gives the reader an idea of John Wolcots skills: Poor Mora eye be wet wid tear,/And heart like lead sink down wid woe;/ She seem her mournful friends to hear,/ And see der eye like fountain flow./ No more she give me song so gay,/ But sigh, Adieu, der Domahay. This very good copy was purchased from Heffer in Cambridge, Cat. 222, No. 2377.

Some tissue guards for the engravings are still in place. 97 pages followed by the back cover of the original wrapper, with the advertisements for Bernard Blackmantle's The English Spy. The Spy at Eton. Some foxing, mostly in the wide margins. Bound in quarter green morocco on marbled boards.

The original gray paper wrapper with red and black lettering and the printer's mark of a man tilling his garden on the front cover and an advertisement for L'Educazione Nazionale of G. Lombardo-Radice on the back cover. The original price of 2 lire appears at the foot of the back cover. [91 pages, Nota, indice; 4 pages of advertisements for Istituto Bibliografico Italiano, Roma]. This copy is signed, inscribed and dated by Prezzolini: "all'amico Riccio GPrezzolini N.Y. 1927."
Mostly unopened, this rare surviving inscribed copy records the nexus of Riccio, a first-generation Italian American, with Prezzolini, whose legendary "Voice" was far more than a review and was a publication of enormous importance to Italian culture and intellectual life. First edition, 19.5 cm, 75 pages, plus 4 un-paginated pages of advertisements and an eight-page student directory, which gave the name, class and local address of each student. White paper boards with a black cloth back strip. The name "Pardoe" is penciled on the front cover. Condition is fine.

Quarto, [three introductory blanks; iv; Glossary 56 pages unpaginated; Local Proverbs p. 57- 124; five concluding blanks]. 26 ½ cm x 21 cm. Full gilt-trimmed tan calf. Binder's tag from Lubbock in New Castle. Book plate of John Stafford Reid Byers (1903-1984), who was in the Ministry of Economic Warfare in 1939 and New Castle solicitor, Armorer Donkin (1779 1851), who signed his book plate. A fine wide-margined copy, bright, crisp. Re-backed. "Scrat" is defined as "an hermaphrodite, used of men and animals, and, groovers as miners." Crones are defined as "old ewes who have lost their teeth." Under Herefordshire one finds: "Blessed is the eye, / That is between Severn and Wye." This proverb, Fuller supposes to refer not only to the beautiful and fertile country so situated, but also to allude to the safety from hostile invasions arising from the protection of those two rivers.

[iv; 220 pages, ii] With an additional engraved title page and an engraved frontispiece portrait of Publius Terentius Afer. Royal motto on printed title page, dedication to John Spencer. Printed on India paper, gilt-edging all around, contemporary red morocco, raised bands, Bookseller Louis W. Bondy's clipped catalogue description laid in. Fine.
