Two pocket-sized (32mo, or 13.5 x 9 cm) volumes. Vol. 1: 2 title pp + viii contents pp + 224 pp, Vol. 2: 2 title pp + viii contents pp + 256 pp. Both volumes rebacked in red calf with gilt tooling, original paper boards, corners bumped and edges slightly rubbed. All pages relatively clean and bright except for flyleaves and title pages of Vol. 2, which show moderate level of foxing, owner's name and dedication handwritten on inside of front board on Volume 1 and front flyleaf of Vol. 2: "Sophie Charlotte Woodman, given her by her Grandmother, June 1836.These are early 19th-century children's books that were adapted from Bewick's General History of Quadrupeds (1799) and History of British Birds (1799).
