Compartments tooled and lettered in gilt. Green title label, gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Top edge gilt. A very good attractive copy of this scarce war time Sherlock Holmes title.

Verve. Paris.,1938/9. FOLIO. (14.1 x 10.4 inches). Two issues bound in one hard back volume. Fully illustrated throughout with drawings, paintings and photographs, these 2 numbers contain original full lithographs by Chagall, Miro, Rattner, Klee, Matisse & Derain. The two issues have been bound into one hardbound volume and the binding has been beautifully hand painted, in acrylic and oils, with an abstract design, including the volume title, to both the boards and the spine by noted Neo-Expressionist American painter Gaylen Hansen. Some rubbing to the edges and one split in the front board (without loss) but generally in very good condition.Included with the volume is a fine hardback copy of the fully illustrated book issued in 2007 to accompany the retrospective exhibition "Gaylen Hansen: Three decades of Paintings" at the Seattle Art Museum (October 2007 - January 2008) and Salt Lake City Art Center (February - April 2008). :.

Macmillan & Co. London. 1910. 8vo. Reprint of 1890 edition. Fully illustrated throughout with 182 engravings by Hugh Thomson. Lovely clean copy in fine early binding for Hatchards of Piccadilly. Half red morocco Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments with triple ruled gilt borders. Gilt lettering. Boards with red cloth, edges with double gilt rules. Top edge gilt, the other page edges untrimmed, as issued. Plain pink endpapers. Red silk bookmark. A fine copy in a beautiful quality binding.

Harrap and Co. London. 1929. FIRST RACKHAM EDITION. 12 full page colour plates and 22 line drawings throughout the text. Finely bound in Publishers delux leather binding of dark brown morocco, spine lettered in gilt. Front board with onlayed reproduction of one of the book's colour plates in gilt and six different coloured leathers. Green endpapers illustrated with white silhouettes. Top edge gilt. Neat previous owners name and address stamp to top of front free endpaper. Minor rubbing to the edges but overall a very good copy of this beautiful delux edition.

R. Ackermann. London. 1823. SECOND EDITION, a re-issue of the 1817 edition. 8vo (9.9 x 6.6 inches). Illustrated with 24 fine hand-coloured, full page, aquatint plates, the colouring still strong and bright, by Thomas Rowlandson. The plates are generally on smaller leaves but all are complete with image and printed lettering in the margins. Some minor spots of foxing to a few leaves but generally clean and bright in the scarce original publisher's red/brown cloth binding, with gilt lettering and decoration on spine. Decorative blind stamped panels on boards. Original yellow coated endpapers. Previous owners bookplate to front paste down endpaper and ink name to front free endpaper. Some rubbing to top and tail of spines and fore-edges, and the inner hinges cracked but holding firm. Some loss to the very bottom of the spine but generally a very good example.

Methuen & Co. Ltd. London. 1915. FIRST U. K EDITION. 8vo. 1st state of title page with the comma present after Essex Street. 4pp of publishers advert, dated autumn 1915. 31pp publishers catalogue, dated 8/5/15 bound in at rear. A very good clean copy in publishers original red cloth, titles and decoration to spine in gilt. Previous owner neat ink presentation inscription, dated 1. 11. 15, and the same name, but with his army number and regiment details, in pencil on front free endpaper. Spine cloth is a little darkened but the gilt is still bright and fresh. Some rubbing to edges and a one inch tear in the hinge cloth to the top of the front board. Overall a very good copy.

Facsimile edition reproducing the text and plates from the scarce 1863 edition, published by Edward Lear himself, beautifully illustrated with 20 fine tinted lithographs plus illustrated title page with view from "One gun battery", Corfu. Of the full page plates, 8 are views of Corfu, 3 of Santa Maura, 3 of Cephalonia, 3 ofZante, 1 of Paxo, 1 of Ithaca and 1 of Cerigo. Green cloth binding with gilt lettering and borders to front board. Spine lettered in gilt. A fine, bright copy of this beautiful book.

Blue paper covered boards with cream paper spine. Degree of chipping on spine with uniform discolouration. Light foxing to some pages only. Overall a near very good copy.:

Illustrated with 16 full page mono plates, one from a drawing of the discovery by Dr Edward A. Wilson, the rest from photographs. Illustrated map endpapers in the front. A very good copy in an early leather binding by Morrell of London. Half dark blue calf. Spine with raised bands. The compartments lettered and decorated in gilt. Blue cloth on boards. Gilt stamped arms of Dover College to the front board. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. A little rubbing to the binding but overall a very good and attractive copy of this classic of Polar exploration.

Fine early binding of full tan calf. Both boards with blind stamped decorative design within a gilt ruled line border. Spine with decorative gilt bands, the compartments blind decorated and lettered in gilt. Board edges with gilt decorative roll design. Marbled endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. All edges gilt. Some rubbing and minor bumping to the corners but overall a very good and attractive copy of this charming and unusual little book, a fantasy voyage through the perspective of household objects. The book is undated, but the Bibliotheque Nationale de France catalogue gives the publication date as 1828.
