An important monograph, based on well-preserved faunas, with many new taxa: four new genera, and 27 new species. Published as Paleontologia Sinica (series B)172(22). In Chinese, with a 30 pp. English summary, including biostratigraphy, comparison with other, world wide, faunas, and descriptions of the new taxa. Stamp and handwritten numbers on front board; otherwise an excellent, clean copy. Very uncommon.

Original decorated cloth with bevelled edges and gilt title on the spine, and gilt title and large vignette on the front board. Toronto edition with a preface to the Canadian edition. Signed and dedicated by the author to a "Miss Caldwell" and dated "11 June 1875". The author Frederick Temple Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood, 1st Marquess of Dufferin and Ava (1826-1902), "is now best known as one of the most successful diplomats of his time... London, the author, 1851 [REPRINT Mergus, Germany]. (64.1 x 49.5 cm). Full colour facsimile. A stunning, gigantic plate by the famous bird painter and ornithologist John Gould (1804-1881), depicting a bird from tropical Africa, the yellow-billed turaco. It occurs in coastal regions from Sierra Leone to the northernmost tip of Angola. Its current scientific name is Tauraco macrorhynchus. This excellent reproduction is faithful to the original in every detail. An excellent, clean copy.
