About This Item

Oxford: Printed at the Clarendon Press, 1771. xi, [5], 230pp, [16]. With two engraved folding plates. Contemporary blind-tooled calf, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece. Heavily rubbed, chipping to head of spine. Very occasional early inked annotations to margins. An abstract of the lectures of jurist and legal scholar William Blackstone (1723-1780) delivered during his tenure as Vinerian professor of law at Oxford, beginning in 1753. First published anonymously in 1756, the Analysis was the schema upon which Blackstone developed his highly influential magnum opus, Commentaries on the Laws of England (Oxford, 1765-1769). The sixth edition is particularly significant for being the first to correspond to a printed version of the Commentaries. ESTC T56696.. Sixth edition. 8vo.

Terms of Sale

Antiquates Ltd

Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.

Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.

We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.

We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
