About This Item
London, England / Edinburgh, Scotland: E. and S. Livingstone Ltd, 1955. Reprint edition. Hardcover. Good. 12mo 7" - 7. 1955 reprint of a 1545 original A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy. A bit damped of blue cloth and leading to a lightly wavy text-block, else clean and unmarked. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, moderately worn, protected by a plastic coat. The book opens with a Memoriam to George Frederic Still (1868-1941), whose History of Pediatrics (1931) label the present book "the first book on paediatrics ever written in the English language" (p. 5). Frontis facsimile of a page from the original edition, and then follows 76 pp. of adages and parables for "the cure of chyldren," how to bear and raise them, feed and nurture them, and to treat consumption (tuberculosis) and "goggle-eyes," wormes and breast-feeding reticence. Introduction and Acknowledgments by A.V. Neale and Hugh R.E. Wallis, then the original author's Preface, then the Treatise, proper. Original spellings and grammar are retained, and copious notes are provided as to how to read the book. Quite an interesting tome.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
