"California is Chinese, especially in San Francisco, Japanese and Mexicans in Los Angeles. It is Armenians in Fresno, Danes in Solvang, Basques in Bakersfield, Stockton and Fresno, Yugoslaves from the Dalmatian coast in San Pedro, Italians and Portuguese in Monterey and Iowans, Kansans, New Yorkers, Texans, Bostonians and people from everywhere inhabiting its split-level houses in split-level topograph. California food is as varied and exciting as its people. " Jeanne Voltz (aka Marian Manners) was the food editor for the Miami Herald and then the Los Angeles Times from 1960-1973. Voltz won three James Beard awards for her cookbooks. The California Cookbook more than 600 recipes were selected as her favorites from the scores of recieps sent to her from around the world. Each section has a brief introduction and there are special sections on California Salads, BBQ, California parties and exoticas that make for a fun and interesting regional cookbook. ; 8vo ; 419 pp pages .
