New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1898. Small octavo (17.7 x 12 cm.), 112 pages. Later printing. The second cookbook, following The Little Dinner, from Christine Terhune Herrick, author of over thirty books on housekeeping and cooking, and the daughter of Marion Harland (pseudonym of Mary Virginia Terhune). Herrick's first article was published in 1885, in the very first issue of Good Housekeeping. In this work, Herrick offers a brief history of the chafing dish and practical suggestions to each gender for its proper use, recipes, and menus. Text block clean and sound. In publisher's paper-covered boards, decorated and titled in gray and pink. Binding is lightly soiled, but sound. Scarce in good condition in any edition. [OCLC no copies of this printing, but thirty-two copies of all issues pre-1900; not in Bitting or Cagle].
