Pp. 320, 4 coloured plates, black & white title page vignette and text illustrations, index; roy. 8vo; pictorial glazed paper wrappers illustrated on both sides, edges a trifle rubbed; Pilgrim Printing Services, Melbourne, 1999. First edition. *Inscribed and signed by the author on the title page: 'Best wishes to the members of the Melbourne Branch of the Company of Master Mariners of Australia'. From 1854 until 1868, the 2446 ton clipper Champion of the Seas made 15 voyages to Australia, carrying 5,300 emigrants from Liverpool to Melbourne. Included in this volume are selections from the journal of Mary Ann Merson, who sailed on the Champion with her children in 1855, shipboard diaries of three other emigrant passengers, extracts from the Captain's Log, plus the complete passenger lists and comprehensive crew listings.
