Originally friendly to white American settler’s and explorers (Lewis & Clark among them) the Nez Perce people found themselves continually provoked and misled over the course of the 19th century eventually resulting in the war of 1877. Led by Chief Joseph, Looking Glass and White Bird against the might of the American Calvary and found themselves fleeing over 1,200 miles in an attempt to reach Canada. A near fine copy in like dust jacket , gilt lettering on spine (407 pages, map end papers, 28 black & white portraits, notes, bibliography, index).
