A very smart first edition of this illustrated history of the Crecy War, 1346, by soldier and military historian, Alfred Higgins Burne. A smart first edition of the work, in a green morocco contemporary binding with decorative gilt tooling to the spine and green cloth boards. This work is comprised of a military history of the Hundred Years War from 1337 to the peace of Bretigny in 1360. The Battle of Crecy took place in Northern France between the French army of King Philip VI and the English army commanded by King Edward III. This battle took place on 26th August 1346. This work is written by soldier and military historian, Alfred Higgins Burne, who has written many historic books, mainly concerning battles fought in England during The Hundred Years War. Burnes details a number of different events in this work, including The Siege of Calais, The War in Gascony and the titular battle, The Campaign of Crecy. With three plates, including a panorama of the battlefield drawn from the English line, as well as eighteen sketch maps of the surrounding areas and battles. Collated, complete.With an Ex Libris bookplate to the front paste down.Contemporary ink inscription to the rear blank, giving thoughts on certain pages in the novel. Rebound in green morocco with decorative gilt tooling to the spine and green cloth boards. Externally, excellent, with the occasional light mark to boards and light shelf wear. Light offsetting to endpapers, with an Ex Libris bookplate to the front paste down. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Light spotting to fore edge. Contemporary ink inscription to the rear blank. Near Fine
