The very scarce first edition of this late eighteenth century collection of poetry from a Liverpudlian Professor. The very scarce first edition.A charming collection of sixteen lyrics, with titles including 'For the Blind Asylum, Liverpool', 'Ode to Reason', and 'Verses, enclosing some Bride-Cake'.Rebound, with endpapers renewed. Retaining the original half title.Born in Liverpool, author William Smyth was the son of a wealthy merchant and attended Eton and Cambridge before becoming a Professor of both Maths and History. Rebound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to back strip head and tail and board perimeters. Internally, firmly bound. Half title and final leaf significantly age toned with handling marks, with pages otherwise only a touch age toned, with the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
