The first edition of this work from English lawyer and biographer Roger North, in which he defends King Charles II's record as a monarch. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece.North's work was authored as a refutation of the third volume of White Kennett's 'History of England', which criticised King Charles II's record, and resulted in the anger of his Jacobite enemies.ESTC Citation No. T147677. Despite the pagination, text and register are continuous.With a lengthy index to the rear, with a final errata leaf.With the illustrated bookplate of Ethel Mary Portal to the front pastedown.This work is viewed as offering important insight into the battle between eighteenth century Tory and Jacobite interpretations of recent history. Rebound in half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Fading to back strip, with rubbing to back strip tail, and centre of each raised band. Front board detached. Rear joint starting to head and tail, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with the odd light spot throughout. Good Only

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
