First edition thus. *The personal story of a young Australian soldier in the first airborne battle of history, The Battle of Crete. Written from the author's 1943 diary, and first published (heavily censored) in 1944 under the title Escape from Crete. The present edition, published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Crete, restores the names, places and incidents which were deleted from the first edition.
