Complete in three volumes. Written by English archaeologist and author, John Henry Parker, during the Gothic Revival in England. This influential architectural work proved to be a valuable inspiration for young architects at the time.Comprised of the following: 'A Glossary of Terms Used in Grecian, Roman, Italian, and Gothic Architecture', Part I and II, the fourth edition, enlarged, published in 1845. Illustrated with numerous vignettes to the first volume and one-hundred-and-sixty-four plates to the second.'A Companion to the Third Edition of a Glossary of Terms Used in Gothic Architecture', the third edition, published in 1841. Illustrated with fifty-seven plates. Collated, complete.With the morocco bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedown. William Foyle founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd mark. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally very bright and clean, with a few scattered spots predominantly to the first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed
