About This Item
First hardcover edition, with dust jacket, published by Gnome Press, 1951. Sky blue cloth covered boards with the author's name and title imprinted in gold on the spine. 304 pages, 5-1/4" X 7-5/8". Fourth in the 'Lens' series of novels by Smith, first serialized in Astounding Magazine in 1939. Cover art by Hubert rogers with interior illustrations by Ric Binkley. The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped, original price of $3.50 printed on the top corner of the front flap. The dust jacket has some light edge wear to the head of the spine with a small chip there as well. Some of the edges of the jacket have been covered with clear tape which has discolored in some areas. Sun fading to the title on the spine and to the "G" in the title on the front cover. Blue cloth covered boards show some spots of fading. Appears as though the sun fading of the title has transferred to the blue cloth of the spine too. Gold lettered title and author's name on the spine, lettering is intact. Corners are straight and not bumped. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Age appropriate tanning to the edges of the text pages. Stain mark on the bottom of the text block, about 1/4" circle, only appears on the edge of the text. Staining to the board edges but very little edge wear to the cloth covered boards. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. The binding is tight and square. This is not a library copy, not a remainder copy. Attached are photos of the copy we have in our inventory.
