About This Item

London: George Allen & Unwin LTD (1931), 1931. First English language edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Very Good. 8vo. [11], 12-465, [2], [5] (pages of publisher's advertisements) pp. Brown cloth with gold lettering on the spine and the publisher's device in gold on the spine. Translated by W.R. Boyce Gibson. With a preface by Husserl. Part of The Library of Philosophy, edited by J.H. Muirhead. Spileers 710. Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, "Edmund Husserl". Husserl's second major publication, one that details several aspects of phenomenology. A founder of the movement, Husserl pioneered several concepts such as "[the] transcendental-phenomenological method, the phenomenological structure of time-consciousness, the fundamental role of the notion of intersubjectivity in our conceptual system, the horizon-structure of our singular empirical thought, among others" (SEP, "Edmund Husserl"). The importance of his contributions to the Continental school of philosophy cannot be overstated. Originally published in 1913 in German, this translation made Husserl's work on phenomenology accessible to English readers. The bottom corner of the jacket's front flap is clipped, the jacket's front panel has a large chip.
