Scarce work. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece and twenty-three full-page images and many in-text figures. Volume two is illustrated with sixteen full-page images and many in-text images. Collated complete. A collection of ballads from British writers, with titles including: The Armada, The Bonnie Bairns, Cumnor Hall, Edwin and Emma, King Arthur's Death, The Lament of the Border Widow, Molly Carew, Robin Goodfellow, Sweet William's Ghost, The Whitehorse of Wharfedale, and many others. Selected and edited by George Barnett Smith, an English author and journalist. Publisher's catalogue to the rear. In the original red cloth binding with gilt. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Light age toning to the endpapers with further ageing to the first and last endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1887. Very Good
