About This Item

Hardcover Cloth 246 pages. Condition Very Good Dust Jacket Very Good. Presumed First edition 1953. Nice dark blue boards and gilt embossing shows off this Clean, tight, square copy with no marks, highlights or bookplates. Previous owner's address sticker on front endsheet. Book Well kept and carefully stored in unread condition. Slight shelf wear. An unclipped dust jacket smooth, clean and brilliant with slight shelf wear - a few tears, wrinkles and chips. Not an ex-library, book club or remainder copy.

A vivid picture of life aboard a great carrier in wartime, as seen through the eyes of some of her crew. The Illustrious was true to her name. She was in the glory of Taranto where the Italian fleet was crippled by the Fleet Air Arm and later she was in the hell of dive-bombing attacks that sent her limping into Malta more dead than alive.

H.M.S. Illustrious was the might, majesty, dominion and power of the great carrier task-forces that paved the way for victory at sea.
