About This Item
London: George Bell and Sons, 1905. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 8" by 5". None. A very scarce, unique copy of George Otto Trevelyan's selection of verse and prose. Trevelyan's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Another former owner has written in pencil that this is the author's own marked copy, altered for the 2nd 1924 edition. Trevelyan has marked this book up throughout. To the spine is inked 'Corrections' in bold. There are several revisions written to the margins, spelling corrections, and punctuation additions. One example of a major change is where the author has excised the final four pages of 'An Ancient Greek War' and states the end should be with 'and so it is with those who have died for their country' on page 300. The remaining text has been scribbled out, as have other hand-written notes written by Trevelyan to the margins. Loosely inserted are articles on George Macaulay Trevelyan, the son of the author. With a portrait frontispiece of Trevelyan. The title page is detached but present. A truly unique example of this poetry collection. With many additions and changes by the author throughout. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Small loss to the head and tail of spine. A few light marks to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Title page is detached but present. Pages are generally bright. Occasional light spots to pages. Very Good
