Profusely illustrated, including from many period photographs. Cloth with silver spine titling. 7 1/4" x 10 1/4". The detailed story of two great paddle-wheel vessels that ran the river between San Francisco and Sacramento from 1927 to 1940. In World War II, the vessels served the U. S. Navy as hospital ferries, barracks, and troop shuttles. From the flap: "This rousing story captures the romance, struggle, and adventure of California's last and most revered paddle-wheel steamers".
