About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1944. First U.S. edition. 8vo, 249, [1]pp. Publisher's drab cloth stamped in orange, top edge of page block stained orange, in illustrated jacket by Arthur Hawkins. Some toning to edges of boards else fine in like jacket with a few smudges to rear panel, and similar edge toning. A sharp copy.
Very nice copy of this, the Scottish/Irish author Stephen Gilbert's (1912-2010) first book. The Landslide is a parallel worlds story involving fantastical and benevolent prehistoric creatures that were discovered after a landslide. Naturally, the locals think the creatures are hellspawn sent by the devil. Uncommon in such a nice jacket.
Locke, Spectrum of Fantasy vol. II, Pg 81.
