About This Item
Tight, square spine has some very subtle creasing. CLean, unmarked interior. There is a one-inch crease to the back cover at the fore-edge head, but else only very gentle shelf-wear. First published in 1950 in Paris by Société d'Édition as Du Temps perdu au temps retrouvé. Translated by C. J. Richards and A. D. Truitt. Literary scholar Brée wrote extensively not only on her friend, Albert Camus, but also André Gide, Jean-Paul Sartre, and, as seen here, Proust. This edition features a fantastic mid-century design by Grove Press workhorse/visionary Roy Kuhlman, which pairs a neo-grotesque sans serif with an abstract image which overlaps slightly dissonant linework with maximum-warmth color blocking (Kuhlman was hired on second thought by Grove's Barney Rosset after two abstract pieces accidentally slipped from a side pocket of the young artist's portfolio during an otherwise disastrous job interview). 248 pp. Literary Biography.
