About This Item
New York: Frederick Fell, 1947. First Edition. Octavo. 21cm. Publisher's bright yellow cloth titled in maroon to spine. Dustjacket. 202pp. Light bumping to spine ends, some grubbiness of the yellow cloth here and there, in a strong, bright pictorial dustjacket with some sunning to the spine panel and shallow chipping at the head and tail. Essentially a very good, solid copy in jacket. Internally clean. A gritty and rather brutal "man returns from the war and everything is upside down" novel in which a poor rural ex-soldier gets embroiled in local feuds, and falls for his wife's much younger sister. Reprinted numerous times in a series of steadily more risqué covers.
