About This Item
William Morrow, 1962. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Inscribed in the year of publication on the red front free endpaper: "For Gale Parris, with best wishes from Joseph Wood Krutch, Tucson, Sep 1962." Uncommon signed. The great critic and nature writer's late autobiography. A very good book with light edge wear, slight sunning to edge of spine crown, and faint dampstain to corner of text block that does not effect pages. Former owner's discrete stamp at corner of front pastedown. In a good/very good jacket with general soiling, faint evidence of that same dampstain, a little loss to top and bottom of spine and one tear at lower spine, and few small tape repairs/spots of tape residue. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.

About Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
