About This Item
New York: Alfred A Knopf, 1983. 277 pages. Review copy with a review slip and a Publishers Weekly blurb laid in. Despite some glowing reviews (PW called it "a splendid farce"), the book did not sell well and it and the author almost faded into obscurity. But the comic genius would not be denied, and in the 21st century it has been rediscovered. Among the more recent accolades is the Washington Post's listing it as one of the top five books of "great American comic fiction," Last year it was reprinted in paperback by New Directions, but the Knopf first edition is exceedingly difficult to find in collectible condition. The book offered here is clean and tight, with one very lightly bumped corner. The ivory dust jacket is clean, crisp and bright,. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
