A complete two part edition of Daniel Paterson's guide to the roads of Great Britain.Consisting of the 1778 fourth edition of the first part, 'A New and Accurate Description of all the Direct and Principal Cross Roads in Great Britain', illustrated with a folding map frontispiece. ESTC reference number T93584And the second part, the 1777 third edition of 'A Travelling Dictionary: or, Alphabetical Tables of the Distance of all the Principal Cities, Borough, Markets' etc.ESTC reference T93546With four pages of advertisements to the rear.Early editions of these popular works by Daniel Paterson, a cartographer and officer of the British Army. Patterson's 'Road Book' was first published in 1771, and ran to eighteen editions by 1829. He published further topographical works such as 'Topographical Description of the Island of Grenada' and 'A New and Accurate Description of all the Direct and Principal Cross Roads in Scotland'. In paper covered boards. Remnants of a tile label to back strip, significantly rubbed. Bumping to spine head and tail and board perimeters, with rubbing to boards. Head of front joint starting, with board holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd spot of handling mark, most prominent to first and last few leaves.
