The first book in his Far Eastern trilogy, an epic saga of the Stafford family, stretching from the mid nineteenth to the mid twentieth century - This opens in Australia in 1850, a brutal country swept by gold fever. Neil Stafford, the older brother, has been convicted of robbery and shipped to Australia as a prisoner; his younger brother Ross follows, determined to help him escape. Their adventures take them thousand of miles, including to Hong Kong and embroil them in the Opium Wars. In addition to novels, Mather wrote many screen plays, including Fleming's Dr No, as well as television series and radio scripts.
