Jonathan Cape, 1939. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1939. First Edition. 550 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Deckled text block edges. Contains black and white illustrated and photographic plates. Heavy fraying to spine ends with exposed binding. Pages are lightly tanned with mild foxing to endpapers and text block edges. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper, with a few small nicks along text block edge. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Plates are bright and clear, with slight tanning and foxing to edges. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with notable bumping and fraying to corners, and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate tanning to spine and edges, with heavy fraying to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean and bow.
