Brown boards with fairly recent light brown cloth spine, no lettering. 12 (pub. list) + viii, inc engraved t.p. dated 1830 with central fig. of Bacon + 372 + printed Lardner series t.p. dated 1831 with John Taylor as added publisher; 2 prev.owners' sigs to fr. paste-down dated 1869, 1971 plus very chipped and dark fragment of oiginal sp. title tipped in on light yellow slip attached to top edge, slight opening to top gutter between viii/1, otherwise remarkably clean and tight for age though some gatherings protruding as produced, touch of dustiness to top edge. Aesthetically the main fault is unlettered re-backed covers. A classic document from a key transitional period in the physical sciences. 11 cm x 18 cm
