Dustjacket condition: 47pp. Many colour illustrations. This book, part of the Ravilious in Pictures" trilogy, shows a selection of the artist's finest wartime work. Ravilious (1903-1942) died while on active service in Iceland. He was appointed to the Admiralty as an Official War Artist in December 1939 with the honorary rank of Captain in the Royal Marines. He visited ports, naval bases and airfields around Britain, witnessed the allied invasion of and retreat from Norway and produced watercolours of subjects ranging from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal in action to the interior of a mobile pigeon loft..
