About This Item

Seattle and London: University of Washington Press, 1987. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Fine. 4to. Pp. x, [2], 3-176. Frontis. photo by Joseph Scaylea. Illustrated throughout with black & white photo reproductions, as well as other print matter. Appendices, bibliography, index. Photo endpapers. Bound in purple cloth with silver lettering stamped on spine. In the color, photo-illustrated dust jacket. A bright, fresh copy. Features reference to the 1936 Olympics gold-medal winning University of Washington Crew. They were Herbert Morris, Charles Day, Gordon Adam, John White, James McMillin, George Hunt, Joe Rantz, Donald Hume and Robert Moch, who prevailed against the Ivy League colleges to muster the honor to represent the United States in Berlin, then took gold at the last second while Hitler watched. And seethed.

George Pocock, the renowned designer and builder of shells and sculls, began his professional career at Eton, thence to Vancouver, BC, where, in the early 1920s, he was recruited to Seattle.

Dust jacket is now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
