About This Item
Grove Press, 1971. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. FINE/Very Good. SIGNED by the author and inscribed to photographer and fine-press publisher Stathis [Orphanos] in blue pen on the FFEP: 'I'm glad you have not had to live in The Room / Love / H. Selby Jr. / 7-27-86.' Inscription perhaps a cryptic reference to the decade Selby spent largely bed-ridden following severe lung complications from Tuberculosis. Selby's second novel, The Room descends into 'the particular hell of one man's mind', tracing the reminisces of a criminally insane man locked in solitary confinement. 288pp. 12mo, black cloth, gilt spine lettering. Exceedingly clean and sharp copy with crisp, fresh pages; DJ spine sunned as usual with some light rubbing to extremities, price of $5.95 intact.
