About This Item

New York: W.W. Norton & Company, Inc, 1958. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. Presentation Copy. Inscribed by Harry and Bonaro Overstreet to Senator Ted Kennedy on the front endpaper. Near Fine in a Good jacket, unclipped ($3.95), unevenly faded, generally rubbed and with some small tears and chips. Black buckram, a few bumps at the edges and surface, with gilt lettering and rules on the spine. Square and firmly bound, foxed at the edges and endpapers, clean otherwise. Written with the Overstreetes' focus on adult education in mind, this work presents the theory and practice of communism to "every intelligent American." This work gained popularity when Secretary of State John Foster Dulles gave President Eisenhower a copy after a visit to Walter Reed Hospital.
