Philadelphia: Joseph Crukshank, 1775. Second Edition. . Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavo. 432 pages. Hardcover bound in original full brown leather with a red leather label on the spine. Ribbed spine. Front hinge is cracked and holding by one cord at the bottom band. The binding is worn and bumped. The text block is sound. Early owner's signature on the front flyleaf is of Sam'l Titus or Tiles or Jiles. Another similar signature in pencil on the rear flyleaf is dated 1846. The ink signature on the front flyleaf looks much closer to the original publication of the book. The text is toned and shows foxing and has some possible damp spots. Two main parts in one volume with a separate title page for his Journal at the front and a separate title page for the Second Part after page 250 (the pagination runs continuously through both parts of the book). The title for the second part states, "The Second Part. Containing his Last Epistle and his Other Writings." The first work in this second part is, "Some Considerations on the Keeping of Negroes recommended to the Professors of Christianity of Every Denomination. First Printed in the Year 1754." Colonial American imprint. A rare work.

Hardcover bound in quarter tan cloth with grey paper-covered boards and the remains of the original grey dust jacket. Light to moderate wear to the binding. The boards show some browning and foxing, likely from the remains of the dust jacket. The front and rear panels and turn-ins of the jacket remain. The front panel of the jacket has a couple of glass rings as well as a 3 1/2inch tear on the fore edge near the bottom corner. This tear has some old and failed tape repairs and a large accompanying crease. The binding is rubbed, and the boards show some normal scuffs. Raised bands on the spine. Prior owner's signature "T. Smith / 1788" on the front flyleaf in a fine hand. There is some foxing to the text. Some offsetting to the paper on the pages opposite the engravings. This volume is has 14 of 15 plates, LACKING the plate of Hatfield House opposite Pg. 137. This plate also lacks the leaf for pages 138-139, so two pages of text are missing. This volume runs from January to June, 1786 and contains the supplement and the Index at the rear.

Hardcovers bound in early full calf with raised bands and with gilt designs on the spine. Spine titles read "Marshall on Planting" and with the 1803 date stamped in gilt at the foot. The leather boards are ruled in gilt and have wide decorative rolls in blind. The bindings show light to moderate wear and bumping but are quite sound. Several brief stains from early leather treatments. Hinges a bit rubbed on Volume I and with a little splitting at the bottom of the rear hinge on Volume II. The front pastedown in Volume II has a 19th century bookplate of "George Strode , Esq. / Newham Park, Co. Devon." No bookplate in Volume I. The text is quite clean, and the paper has a faint bluish hue. NOT an illustrated work. Overall a very attractive set.
