About This Item
Lwow: Nakladem Funduszu Konkursowego imiena. Hip. Wawelberga, 1906. First edition. Hardcover. Fair. Large octavo. (xxiii) 577pp. + 188pp (documents, tables and Index). Rebound in red cloth boards, with black lettering on a white label on the spine. The original wrappers bound in, and reinforced with japan tissue. The author helped found the study of Polish Jewish History in the early 20th century. Despite being home to the world's largest Jewish population, this field had largely been ignored by earlier German Jewish historians such as Heinrich Graetz. This work is a history of the Jewish community of Lwow in the early modern period. Illustrated throughout with 77 figures, including illustrations and b/w photographic reproductions. Includes a 188 page section at the end of scholarly reference documents, tables and indices. This work is the third part of the series: Monografie z Historii Zydów w Polsce (Monographs on the History of the Jews in Poland). Text in Polish.
Binding with light rubbing and/or bumping to extremities. Label on the spine staring to peel off. Edges of the book block foxed. Interior with original title page and two other roman numeral pages rebound out of order following the original wrappers. Some pages throughout with sporadic light water stains. Signature of the previous owner in pen on the original wrappers and the title page. Binding in very good-, interior in good+ condition overall. Scarce.
