First Edition. 280pp. Buckram boards, debossed decoration to front cover, paper spine label. 36 photographic plates plus frontispiece and one fold-out floor plan. Contents are clean and in very sound condition with the exception of missing rear free endpaper. Herzfeld was a scholar of all phases of Near Eastern culture from the prehistoric period to Islamic times. Articles contributed by René Dussaud, Richard Ettinghausen, Hetty Goldman, Gisela M.A. Richter and others. Published with the support of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, in Ernst Herzfeld's memory.

Brown embossed cloth, gilt seal on both covers, gilt lettering to spine. Light edgewear, spine ends chipped, text slightly wavy but clean, city map has a 3 inch tear neatly repaired, 1695 New York City map, and New York Hospital engraving have several short margin tears also tape neatly repaired, owner's name on front free endpaper. Book and plates are in overall sound and clean condition.

Washington, D.C.: Philp & Solomons, 1860. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. x, 239, 16pp ads. Brown embossed cloth, gilt lettering and capitol in gilt, double-page map. Spine slightly sunned, covers otherwise are in very sound condition. Endpapers are lightly foxed and text is age-toned, and has a very occasional spot, binding is tight, map is in clean, crisp condition. Background and descriptions of Washington's buildings and institutions, along with illustrations.

Ann Arbor, Michigan: Dr. Chase's Steam Printing House, 1869. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 331pp. Rust colored embossed boards, gilt spine lettering. Very good with very light rubbing to extremities, contents are clean, slight foxing to page edges only. A well-preserved copy. Fascinating travel adventures on an around world voyage in 1849.

Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 293, 279pp. Blue embossed cloth, gilt ship vignette to front cover, all edges gilt, frontispiece with tissue-guard for each volume. Covers edgeworn, spine chipped at head and tail and darkened, contents age-toned most heavily at first and last few pages, light foxing to fronitspieces and c first and last few pages, binding is tight. Evocative descriptions of the landscapes, environment and the people in America in mid 19th century.

Corners and spine chipped, one inch piece missing from head of spine, first and last few pages foxed, text only occasionally foxed, library label on front pastedown is only library identification, binding is tight. London: J.M. Cobbett, 1822. Third Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 360pp. Bound in modern leather, marbled boards, paper spine label. folding map. Text is tanned and clean, folding map has minor archival tape repair and is in very sound condition. Author's descriptions of the country, it's culture, its agriculture including a discussion of the farming of the Ruta Baga. He crtiicizes at length Morris Birkbeck's settlement in Illinois. Paris: R. Le Franq, 1786. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 136pp. Three quarter vellum modern marbled binding. Book is in unworn, sound condition. Possibly a pirated edition published after the 2 volume edition published the same year. Howes C-324.

St. Louis: Woodward & Tiernan Ptg. Co./St. Louis & San Frisco Railroad, 1900. Soft cover. Very Good. Oblong 4to. Grey pictorial wraps, large folding map. Small chips to head and tail of spiine, contents are clean, folding map (22 x 18 inches) tipped-in at rear in very good condition has 1 inch clean margin tear archival tape mended. Full page black and white, and color photos of Southwest travel through the Ozark Mountains picturing the varying landscapes and the people along the way. A very well-preserved example of this travel publication.

Philade;phia: Caleb Richardson, 1817. First Edition . Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Ione Railton. 189pp. Mottled calf, ex-library, spine and hinges tape repaired, edges worn. contents age-toned and foxed,, but complete and the binding is tight. This is the rare FIRST EDITION, published in Philadelphia in 1817. The author's observations on his travels in the United States, and his plans to establish a colony in the Illinois Territory. New York: Charles L. Webster & Company, 1893. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Dan Beard. 260 + 9 pages of ads. Tan cloth, gilt, brown and black lettering and decoration. Bright copy, spine sunned and a tiny spot, but readable, bookplate of owners tipped-in on front endpapers, some cracking to gutter, text is clean.

A limited edition of 250 numbered copies each signed by Miss Fonteyn and on34 to 1950, with a captioned photo and description for each of the 60 roles she performed during that period. The author explains that his "comments on MIss Fonteyn's performances a re purely personal." A wonderful documentation of her career.

This rare volume includes all 12 months of the 1802 year, which was it's very first year of the publication of The Christian Observer.
