Enoch Arden is a narrative poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, published in 1864 during his tenure as British poet laureate.
The story on which it was based was provided to Tennyson by Thomas Woolner. The poem lends its name to a principle in law that after being missing for a certain number of years (typically seven) a person may be declared dead for purposes of remarriage and inheritance of their survivors.

White's Directories were a series of directory publications issued by William White of Sheffield, England, beginning in the 1820s. White began his career in publishing by working for Edward Baines. William White (3 January 1799 – 3 September 1868) of Sheffield was a British publisher of White's Directories. He began his career in publishing at the age of 18 when he joined Edward Baines of Leeds in the preparation of county histories and directories. Within four years he had succeeded Mr Baines and proceeded to publish directories of numerous counties of England until 1864 when he was succeeded by his son, also William White (1832–1870)

A collection of Wilhelm Hauff's work. To some a controversial figure with his anti-Semitic writings favoured by the Nazi's Wilhelm Hauff (29 November 1802 – 18 November 1827) was a Württembergian poet and novelist. On leaving university, Hauff became tutor to the children of the Württemberg minister of war, General Baron Ernst Eugen von Hugel (1774–1849), and for them wrote his Märchen (fairy tales), which he published in his Märchen almanach auf das Jahr 1826 (Fairytale Almanac of 1826).
