Black ink on paper out-ruled in gold inside fine illustration signed in neat Ottoman Turkish script: Muzehhibesi Rikkat 1364, illustrated by Rikkat 1945. Rikkat Kunt (1903-1986) was an academic and illustration artist. Hâfiz Osman (1642-1698) was a Dervish and Islamic calligrapher, born in Istanbul. Hâfiz Osman incorporated such texts, which had been popular for some time, in a formal design that soon became standard for this art form. Hilyeler came to be used as wall decorations or surface adornments, fulfilling much the same function as figurative paintings in other religious traditions. While… Read More

Suite of 12 etchings (each, 190x141 mm, margins excluded), later applied onto the papers of a nineteenth-century album. The Scola d'Amore exhibits a small poem through images, or rather a 'ricercare' that exploits the development of an iconographic theme - the Education of Love - in all its most inventive implications. Read More
