New York: G P Putnam's Sons, 1937.. VERY COLLECTIBLE. "1937" on both title page and copyright page. Overall condition is Near Fine. 5 ½" x 8 1/8", 96 pages, which are As New, and the top edges of which are tinted green. Outer fep's have light artistic pattern in shades of green. Cover (2-tone green designed boards w/ ¼ bound black cloth (including corners), particulars in silver gilt) = Very Good Plus. A yellow slipcase card with light green print quotes 2 paragraphs by famous American sculptor, George Gray Barnard, surrounds the book. The cover is protected by the original cellophane wrap, which has several significant chips. Noted appraiser James Beattie has placed a value of $135 on this book.

HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents a VERY RARE ASSOCIATION COPY of the 1828 collection of historical Scottish prose and verse, JACOBITE MINSTRELSY. Though yet unverified, the early owner, signed Edward Sugden, is presumably EDWARD SUGDEN, First Baron of St. Leonards, Lord Chancellor of Ireland under both King William IV and Queen Victoria, and (for one year only) Lord Chancellor of Great Britain under Queen Victoria. 1828 is the stated publishing date, while 1829 appears in Roman numerals on title page, making this a very early printing. 3 1/4" x 5 1/4", 362 pages, plus 8 pages of index. No jacket as designed. Cover is marbled grey and brown boards with ¼ bound brown cloth, including at corners, titled in gold gilt on the binding. The front cover is separated, making the overall condition Very Good rather than Near Fine. A note follows the final printed page: "Robert Malcolm, printer." These two books are from Elgin, IL where William Stafford completed his camp experience for being a conscientious objector during World War II. The Oregon Encyclopedia states that the author worked as a secretary for the Church of the Brethren in Elgin, IL which ended in 1946. The previous owner's name is written on both FFEP. He served in the Church of the Brethren General Offices in Elgin as the literary editor and book editor 1939 - 1959 per the Brethren Historical Libraries & Archives. There is a note that was paper clipped inside The Rescued Year which talks about how he knew Bill and what "Grandpa", the previous owner, thought of these two "lightweight books". The paperclip left two marks on the FFEP next to Ora's name. There were also several newspaper articles laid in which discolored the first four pages. Edwin John Dove Pratt (1883-1964) was one of Canada's most notable and unique poets of the twentieth century. Born in Newfoundland, he studied philosophy, psychology, and theology at the University of Toronto, and was ultimately appointed to the English Department of Victoria College at the University of Toronto, the library of which bears his name. Much of his poetry reflected his Newfoundland origins, if not explicitly, then in his frequent treatments of maritime and nautical themes. Other topics addressed in his poetry included science and technology and socio-economic concerns.
The Iron Door is perhaps something of a departure from his other works, and more philosophically inclined. Inspired by a dream prompted by the death of his mother, the poem is concerned with an iron door set in a cliff face that separates this world from the one waiting after death, and how various people come to be before it, and their various reactions to it.
