He wrote several romantic elegies, odes and songs, letters, and epistles most of which deal primarily with love and romantic behavior. He is best known for his treatise on kissing which explores the erotic behaviors and the symbols that kissing represents.

This 1651 Latin edition was published in Leiden and features the entirety of the known works of Secundus.

It was created in 1863 and rebuilt in 1879, after being destroyed in the Franco-Prussian War." 5 1/8 X 7 ¾. 295 pages. QUITE RARE. No other listings seen at time of posting.

With a hand-colored frontispiece of two women dressed in early nineteenth century gowns. Offsetting to title-page, otherwise a very good, clean copy. A sensational novel of a young woman who leaves her modest country life to find employment in the corrupt and fast-paced city. Though besieged by the advances of men, Fanny Bilson maintains her honor and escapes back to the safety of her father's home, now with a reputable gentleman on her arm.

Title in gilt to the spine. There is some rubbing and soiling to the binding and the spine has been re-backed with the original spine relaid, with a little loss of the original spine at the foot. Inside, there is some spotting, and old water staining to the lower margins throughout, although the pages are in remarkably clean condition for a book of this age. The endpapers are somewhat soiled, with a few discreet and sympathetic repairs. The modern bookplate of Chris Viveash is affixed to the front pastedown, with a pencil annotation just above. Ovid was a 1st-century BC Roman poet most-known for his poems on mythology. His works are known to have inspired the works of Dante, Boccaccio, Chaucer, and even Shakespeare as well as works of visual art and music. One of his lesser-known works was his series of instructional works on the art of love, 'Ars Amatoria'. This book was one of the first "how to's" written for men on how to treat women – how to avoid false love, how to meet women, even techniques on engaging romantically.

This particular edition of 'Art of Love' and 'Remedy of Love' was published in 1764 London in English and contains the translations of both Dryden and Chaucer. Unlike other editions, this version contains a 'History of Love' by Charles Hopkins at the end.
