Volume one describes the needs of the convoys for protection and as Canada took more responsibility the Canadian Air Branch of the Navy needed aircraft carriers and planes. HMCS Warrior, and HMCS Magnificent became part of the fleet and the pilots were flying Swordfish and Fireflies. Volume two The new carrier HMCS Bonaventure was to replace HMCS Magnificent in 1957 with modern equipment and the new ASW tracker aircraft. The carrier turned out not to be able to handle the Banshee jets in combination with the ASW operations. Problems occurred with the unification of the armed forces and with cost overruns on a refit for Bonaventure the ship was paid off 1969 and no more fixed wing carriers.
