Description:
Los Angeles: Locare Research Group. Very Good+ in Very Good dj. (c.1969). First Edition. Hardcover. 091398602X . [good solid copy, top front corner bumped; jacket lightly soiled and a little age-toned, minor wrinkling near top of front panel]. (B&W photographs, facsimiles) INSCRIBED ("To Sydney [sic] Solow") and SIGNED by the author on the title page. Essentially a "films-of-Mary Pickford" chronicle, but limited to only those films in which she "appeared as a comedienne, either as the principal actress, or in a supporting role" for the Biograph Company from 1909 through 1912; the illustrations consist primarily of reproductions of "Biograph Bulletins" (the company's trade ads) and frame blow-ups from the films themselves. "During the almost three years that Mary Pickford was with the Biograph Company, she averaged at least one film a week. Description:
Locare Research Group, 1969. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+/Very Good. SCARCE 1969 hardcover with dust jacket protected by a Brodart jacket cover. Well-preserved UNREAD COPY with bright, unmarked, well-bound pages. Cream-colored hardcover shows sharp edges and corners and minimal smudging at edges. Jacket is shelf-rubbed but shows no nicks, tears, or creases. Front jacket flap is corner-clipped. Overall, the jacket remains well-protected by the Brodart cover. This is NOT an ex-library book. A very good, sturdy copy. 156 pages, photo-illustrated throughout. This book documents Mary Pickford's early work as a comedienne in the films she made for the Biograph Company, for whom she made practically a film a week in the time she worked for them between 1909-1912 (when she was 17 to 20 years old). Virtually all of these early Biograph films were directed by D.W. Griffith. A unique and scrupulously researched study of cinema's first female superstar.
