Description:
Info from the back cover: "Love at First Sight" tells the engaging story of how a white Canadian and a black American met in the early 1950's, married, and raised a family in Canada, all against the backdrop of the American civil rights movement. Bert was a young white woman ready to take on the world, travelling on her own from Vancouver to Toronto and back again, supporting herself and finding friends and fun at every turn. Si was a young black man, raised in Memphis, Tennessee, who came to Canada to take a summer job as a porter for the CPR--and stayed. At the Cozy spost, one of Vancouver's many after-hours clubs of the 1950s era, their eyes met. "In that moment", writes Bert, "I heard no sound, had no feeling of place, just the purest sense of happiness I had ever known. I knew in my heart and mind that he was the one!" They married and lived in Port Coquitlam, B.C., building their DIY home and raising six children.
