Jules Verne (1828 - 1905) was a popular French writer, known for this fantasy novels and works for the theater. He is considered one of the early founders of the science fiction genre. Among his most famous works are the novels Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Seas, Around the World in Eighty Days, From the Earth to the Moon, Doctor Ox, and Journey to the Center of the Earth.
